As title, I wondered if -

for experimental curiosity ! I tried a search on *thing instead of something, the former returned no results, the latter some.

- how one's friends might put up a directory of special files like  fancifulname1.jpg  , fancifullname2.jpg , etc - could they be found by searching for  fancifulname*.jpg  It seems not ?
